Candles, Kitchen Gadgets, or Consumable

There are so many great direct sales companies out there selling amazing products.  Personally, I’m a huge fan of Pampered Chef, Thirty-One, etc.  I don’t know what I would do without my deep covered baker, and I definitely would much rather stuff four huge beach towels, a change of clothes for the four of us, and a lunch box into one bag, the Deluxe Utility Tote!  I, too, LOVE candles and I’ve hosted numerous jewelry parties.

Who wouldn’t want free products?
But then you’re asked to do the business.

You’ll need to buy a kit, get yourself situated at home (and online), plan ahead and TALK TO PEOPLE!  Most of us jump into a company because our friend does it, and it’s enticing to have fun parties with margaritas and wine. Others choose a company not only to enjoy a glass of wine, but to supplement their income with hopes of paying all of their bills one day through that direct sales company.  What goes through your mind when making that decision?

Although you can be a business owner for more than one company, a lot of companies only target 1 or 2 markets. For example:

  • Jewelry – ladies and men (gifting)
  • Candles – adult women and college students
  • Kitchen Needs – homeowners, chefs, college students
  • Bags – college students and people who need a bag; you see where I’m going with this.

Why not find a company for everybody, and one that has consumable products?  Think about this…  You’re a Scentsy or Thirty-One Consultant and you have an amazing party going on.  Your customers buy their candle holders, a wall plug in (because it’s pretty), and/or a Large Utility Tote for their trunk the first go around.  But when you re-invite them the following month or year, they just buy the refill scents and wallet to match their tote.  The size of the order goes down.  If you have consumable products, The majority of clients are return customers, and they don’t need to smell, touch or see the products before they buy.

You also want to find a product-driven company, and that is really important if you want to have a stable business.  When people love the products and see how convenient it is to shop from home, they become loyal customers.  So you make the sale one time, but the reorders will keep coming!

Ensure you can expand globally. You guys, that’s ground floor aspect!  I have the ability to do business all over the U.S. and numerous other countries.  Who do you know who has connections outside the U.S.?  That one person can be the key to your international business!  There’s a lot to be said about a company that’s been around almost four decades.
