When food was really food, those in social science studied food-ways because how we eat speaks to the cultural, social and economic practices relating to the production and consumption of food. Convenience food and big agriculture blossomed when the old hybridization of plants gave way to a new kind of hybridizing and genetic modification, requiring an altered seed which produced a food-plant some of our bodies do not recognize as nourishment; but as foreign.
In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve abandoned our kitchens and defaulted instead to “convenience” food which is cheap, plentiful and nutritionally-neutered. We are currently living in a chronic disease plague and think it’s normal! The chronic diseases and “conditions” for which everyone over 50 years old seems to take medication for, are often mistaken for being the inevitable “fate of heredity” and our “genetic makeup”. Seriously? Is that what you’re going with?
Suck it up and crank up the old kitchen, stop buying the boxed “goods” and cruising the drive-thru, and start learning how your grandparents used clean, whole, “God-made” foods of the earth. No more excuses. I happen to know of an easy way you can put down those sugars and simple carbs, and kick those artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners to the curb…and start LIVING again! There are so many easy recipes that use less than 5 ingredients, and take less than 10 minutes of your time. I know 70-year old’s who don’t take metformin, statins, blood pressure medication, and can still fit into skinny jeans! Health and healing is largely in your control. Take control.
